Austin Yard

Twenty-two people

It is loud,
wet and worth it

This is a yard. It is hot in August, the floor is usually damp, and the work is physical. It is also a place where the cheapest option is the greenest one, where nobody is asked to oversell, and where the person who washed a container gets to say whether it is fit to sell.

IBC totes stacked two and three high inside a warehouse, filling the frame in long rows either side of an aisle

Apply with the same form

Put the role in Product Type, your availability in Quantity, and tell us about yourself in the Message. Yes, it is the same form as everything else — it reaches a person here either way.

A working address — the quote comes back here.

US or Canada only, in the format (XXX) XXX-XXXX.

US state or Canadian province — name or two-letter code.

US ZIP (XXXXX or XXXXX-XXXX) or Canadian postal code (A1A 1A1).

26 totes fill a 53-foot trailer single-stacked.

Quotes are written by a human in the Austin yard, usually the same day. We never sell or share what you send us.

What we offer

Full-time roles with health cover from day 31, paid overtime rather than salaried expectation creep, boots and PPE provided, and a genuine training path — every supervisor here started on the yard. We are small enough that you will know everybody’s name and small enough that a good idea reaches the owner the same week.

  • Spanish and English are both working languages here
  • Four-day weeks available on the wash line in the summer months
  • No commission structures, because they distort what we tell customers

01Open roles

What we hire for

Not all of these are open at any given moment. Apply anyway — the yard turns over slowly, but when a slot opens we would rather already know you.

01

Wash line operator

Full time · Yard

Running bays 1–4: rinse cycles, spray lances, caustic CIP and steam. Physical, wet, hot in summer. You will learn more chemistry than you expect and you will be the person who decides whether a container is fit to sell.

02

CDL driver, Class A

Full time · Regional

Texas triangle running, mostly out-and-back with occasional overnights to the Gulf Coast. Loading and strapping totes, and talking to customers at both ends — our drivers are the company for a lot of people.

03

Grading & intake

Full time · Yard

The nine-point inspection, prior-contents verification and photography. The most consequential job here: everything downstream depends on this call being right, and being willing to say no.

04

Fabricator / welder

Full time · Shop

Steel cage repair, hot-air plastic welding, bulkheads, manifolds, frames and custom builds. Half production work, half solving a problem somebody sketched on a napkin.

05

Inside sales

Full time · Office

Reading enquiries, pricing them and writing back. Not a call centre and not a script — you will be trusted to talk a customer down to a cheaper product when that is the right answer, and measured on repeat business rather than margin.

06

Yard apprentice

Entry level

No experience required. You will rotate through intake, wash, rebuild and loading over your first year and come out able to do all four. This is how most of our supervisors started.

02Honesty

What this job is not

It is not clean work. Wash bay staff finish the day damp and smelling faintly of whatever came through. It is not air-conditioned — the bays are covered and fanned, not cooled, and August in Austin is August in Austin. It is not sedentary; a container weighs 130 lb empty and the ones that need moving by hand are the ones that will not fit on a forklift.

And it is not a company with a phone number, which means the inside sales role is entirely written. If you would rather talk than write, that particular job is not for you — though the yard almost certainly is.

What it is: work that visibly matters. Every container that leaves here as a container instead of as regrind is about ninety-five kilograms of carbon that did not happen. Not many jobs let you count that at the end of a shift.
